Around the world in 80 seconds with a Sony HX5V

This little stop-motion short has been creating a lot of hype recently.  It's a trip around the world in 80 seconds--a sort of Phileas Fogg 2.0--and was filmed exclusively using the new Sony HX5V compact camera. French photographer Alex Profit wanted to give it a go, and Sony, no doubt sensing a great publicity opportunity, decided to let him.

Thanks to the built-in GPS, you can see exactly where each photo was taken on a little globe in the corner of the screen.  On the site that accompanies the clip, you can also see panoramic shots of all the cities he visited, using another one of the camera's features.

If we're pedantic, though, the whole thing lasts 106 seconds, and the tour itself starts 6 s in and finishes at 91 s, a total period of 86 seconds.  And finally, it's not quite a 'world' tour, as it resolutely ignores anywhere south of the equator, instead following the route traced out in Jules Verne's novel.

That doesn't make it any less impressive though ...
