The Archos 5 IT was only introduced recently. We've already tested it but the launch in the United States doesn’t seem to have been a complete success.
Apparently the 160 GB version has been affected by a series of software bugs and the hardware is also reported to be defective. The tablets affected will therefore be returned to the manufacturer. The problem is reported to have been caused by a firmware update and is just one in a long line of problems that have unfortunately become typical of the French manufacturer who have got too much into the habit of selling products that aren’t necessarily ready. Sure, they do correct the bugs relatively rapidly, but all the same, on top of any rebadged Chinese players that are circulating, the situation continues to damage the Archos image.

There has however been some interesting news from Google. Android Market will soon support various extra resolutions. The Archos 5 IT will no doubt now be able to access the platform, a question we raised in our articles on the tablet - lack of compatibility meant it only received three stars in the test. This development, then, is good news!
