Phil Schiller has announced that an updated iPod nano 5G is due to be released at a slightly lower price than previous nanos, and that a new white iPod touch is also in the pipeline.

The new models will be available from 12 October with the following price tags:

- iPod nano: $129 for 8 GB, $149 for 16 GB.
- iPod touch: from $199 for 8 GB to $399 for 64 GB.

The new iPod nano can now double-up as a handy watch with a choice of sixteen different watch faces due to be available.

The entry-level iPod touch will sell at more affordable price, but its design and functions haven't changed a bit. The new iPod touch will, however, be available in black or white.

The little iPad Shuffle is still hanging on in there at $49, while the iPod classic seems to be pretty much dead and buried in everyone's minds.

Thanks to Engadget for its Live coverage of the event, which allowed people all over the world (including us) to follow the press conference as it happened.
