After receiving numerous complaints from iPhone 4S owners about the surprisingly poor battery life of certain handsets, Apple has announced a forthcoming fix in the form of an iOS 5 update.
It therefore seems that Apple has at least acknowledged the issue, as the fix for 'a few bugs that are affecting battery life' was announced in a statement yesterday.
Some users have apparently found that their iPhone 4S battery is draining away far too quickly, sometimes in a matter of hours. Apple says that several bugs have been identified and that an iOS update will be released 'in a few weeks' to fix them. Version 5.0.1 of Apple's mobile OS is, in fact, already being tested by developers.
User forums suggest that the problem is principally affecting the iPhone 4S, rather than models of iPhone 4 or iPad running Apple's iOS 5. However, according to Apple, there are no hardware issue with the iPhone 4S and the software patch should take care of things.
In the meantime, if the battery life of your iPhone 4S is draining much faster than you think it should, try switching off the automatic time-zone detection function which could be guzzling battery life unnecessarily.
