Android TV by Christmas

For those of you who don't already know, Google has been hard at work with Intel and Logitech to develop a new kind of Android-based TV. Here are the latest developments.

Logitech has been chosen to manufacture the Google set-top-box (or at least the first one), which will transform any TV, whether previously web-connected or not, into a Google TV running on the Android operating system.

Logitech's Google set-top-box will be launched towards the end of 2010 in the US. In Europe, we'll probably have to wait until 2011 to get our hands on one.

Our friends over at Engadget have already managed to bag themselves a test version. They even give a few technical details about the new set-top-box, citing an Intel Atom processor, 4 GB of memory, Wi-Fi N and more (read the full article). Check it out in this video:

It looks great, but could the Google Box end up making our TV sets way too complicated? For many people, TVs appeal for their sheer simplicity—On/Off/1/ 2/3/4/5—that's all it takes. All these new functions could therefore have a serious impact on user-friendliness.
