An LG plasma TV for under £600

You can now bag yourself a 50-inch plasma TV for under £600 with the LG 50PQ3000. So what exactly do you get for your money?

LG 50PQ3000

Well, it’s no surprise that to sell a 50-inch plasma TV at such a rock-bottom price, there’s got to be a compromise when it comes to certain components and functions:
  • The low price is perhaps first and foremost explained by the screen resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. That means it can’t display content in 1080p resolution, and that even if it’s compatible with 1080p sources, it will automatically downscale them.
  • Video connections are acceptable: 3 HDMI 1.3, 1 Component, 1 VGA, 2 SCART.
  • Functional integrated digital TV tuner.
  • At 8.3 cm thick, the TV’s not exactly cumbersome but it could be slimmer.
Our product test showed that although the picture is certainly big, it lacks definition. If you sit at least 4.5 metres away from the screen then you’ll hardly notice a thing, and so it could prove a worthwhile investment if your home’s big enough. What's more, this TV scores poorly in our tests as it simply can’t compete with Full HD TVs when it comes to reproducing high-definition pictures.
