The Japanese firm, Nippon Electric Glass, has just demoed a new anti-reflective system. This coating is made up of thirty layers placed one on top of the next on either side of the glass substrate and reduces reflected light from 8% to 0.5%.

The screen on the right is hard to make out, though, as the Tech-On journalist, whose news item we picked up on, says, there was indeed a piece of glass in front of each leaf.

On the left, you can see a piece of glass without the Nippon Electric coating and on the right a piece of glass with the thirty superimposed layers. The lights (spotlights on the ceiling) reflected on the left don't appear on the right, almost as if you were looking through polarised glasses. Nor do you see the heads of the onlookers.

The thickness of each filter is around a nanometre, which makes them invisible and without any impact on the thickness of the glass. This system could be a very practical solution for TVs, smartphones, notebooks and tablets.
