AMD has quietly slipped out a new range of entry-level graphics cards. Although they can already be found in some PCs on the high street, these graphics cards won't be officially launched until the second quarter of 2011.
These new cards aren't that much different from the previous generation they're designed to replace. Frequencies have been upped, as has the number of processing units. The cards now incorporate UVD 3, bringing MVC decoding acceleration for 3D Blu-rays. They also have DisplayPort 1.2 connections. The new range comprises three new models, each available with different amounts of memory:
- Radeon HD 6670: 512 MB or 1 GB of GDDR5, 800 MHz GPU, 1 GHz memory, 96 processing units.
- Radeon HD 6570: 512 MB, 1 GB or 2 GB of GDDR3 or GDDR5, 650 MHz GPU, 450 MHz or 1 GHz memory, 96 processing units.
- Radeon HD 6450: 512 MB or 1 GB of GDDR3 or GDDR5, 625 or 750 MHz GPU, 266 or 900 MHz memory, 32 processing units.

The AMD Radeon HD 6670, HD 6570 and HD 6450
Since the cards have been briefly presented but not yet officially launched, anyone buying a computer loaded with one of AMD's new models will be buying blind. As yet, there's no information out there on the graphics cards' actual performances, and there's no real way of comparing them with the competition. No points for AMD on that front.
