The competition has some good merch. Slimmer, lighter, still longer battery life, more legible, with a bigger memory, the new eBook reader from Amazon is "more" everything and less expensive, much less expensive.
The online retailer has just announced it is bringing out two new electronic readers on August 27 that will increase its product range. Although the basis of the ebook reader is the same, the model at $139 will have wi-fi, while the other, at $189, will have both wi-fi and 3G.
4,500 books
In spite of the particularly low pricing, this new model, available in two colours, is not short on performance. It has a 6-inch screen, doubled storage capacity (4 GB or around 4,500 books), a 10-day battery life with wi-fi or 3G activated or a 1-month battery life when the ebook reader is switched off. Its slimmer design also means this mobile library is a little lighter.
What's more, while the new models are still based on E-Ink technology (black and white), Amazon has announced an improvement in contrast for better legibility.
Both models are already on pre-order on Amazon
