It's been confirmed! Acer is joining the party! No half measures either as the company has just announced no less than three models (in addition to a smartphone): two in Android and one in Windows 7.

In theory, these three tablets will be launched at the beginning of next year (February for the Windows 7 model and April for the two in Android). This is what the second largest PC manufacturer in the world announced from New York last night. Acer is hoping to to make up for the fall in netbook sales by extending its reach into these new growth areas.

What exactly are they aiming at with these models then? The Acer strategy is clearly to divide the range into segments so as to cover the needs of its customers to a maximum.

Two tablets in the iPad format and another to compete against the Galaxy Tab

The Windows 7 tablet will have a 10.1-inch screen (1280x800 pixels), 3G and Wi-Fi. It will also have two cameras, one at the front. This model will run on an AMD processor.

The tablets running on Android (version 3.0, optimised for tablets), will be rolled out in two sizes: 7 and 10.1 inches. The first will have a dual core Qualcomm CPU clocked at 1.2 GHz and the larger model will be based on a dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor clocked at 1 GHz. Both tablets will support Flash 10.1 and will of course be connected to 3G and Wi-Fi.

Acer hasn't yet given any pricing information.

Alive

Acer will also be launching its app, music and electronic book store in the first quarter of 2011. To be called Alive, the store will be accessible from all Acer terminals.
