Our sister site, lesnumeriques.com, was founded in Paris back in 2004, and was one of the first French websites devoted to testing consumer electronics products. DigitalVersus, the English-language version of the site, followed in 2007. A special selection of our tests and reviews are adapted for US readers and published at Tom's Guide
Every day, dozens of products pass through our labs, from the tiniest smartphone or GPS to huge LCD TVs. A team of technicians and journalists test every product impartially. Our aim is to make our findings as clear as possible for readers with little or no technical experience, so that you can make an informed choice and buy the right product at the right price.
We're committed to providing independent tests, and are only too happy to be open about how we make our money. We have three main income streams:
The first is from price comparisons in partnership with Pricerunner. Every time you look at one of our product tests, you'll see a list of the best prices available on the web. If you click through from our review and buy one of those products, we receive a small cut. It's a fair system as we remain totally independent: the vendors are chosen by Pricerunner, and we have no say in whose prices appear. The same is true across different brands: we have no interest in pushing one manufacturer over another as you'll always see an impartial list of prices.
Secondly, you'll notice that there are ads on the site. All of the ad content is supplied externally, by Bestofmedia and Google, meaning that we have no control over who advertises where on the site. We can only refuse certain ads—and we do if we're worried they're dubious, not because we're in the pocket of one manufacturer or another.
The third, and smallest source of income for us is syndicating our content in magazines and newspapers. We've got more than enough to get on with online without worrying about print media, so we no longer actively pursue syndication opportunities, but we remain open to offers.
The last thing you should know—and you'll just have to take our word on it—is that these sites were founded by a group of four friends with money out of their own pockets with the aim of bringing you the most impartial tests out there.
