700,000 Android Handsets Activated Every Day

Andy Rubin, Senior Vice-President of Mobile at Google, has announced via Google+ that no less than 700,000 handsets running the firm's Android OS are being activated every day.

This number just keeps on growing from month to month, as does the choice of Android phones and tablets on the market! Last summer, Google was proudly announcing that 500,000 new handsets were being activated each day, but by October, that had already grown to 576,000.

The Android operating system seems to be gaining momentum at an incredible rate. With partners such as Samsung, HTC, ZTE, Sony Ericsson and more happy to flood the market with Android devices, Google is quickly catching up with iOS—Apple announced 250 million handsets sold in October 2011, while Google announced 200 million activations the following November.
