40% of Blackberry owners would like an iPhone

Almost half of Blackberry owners would like to replace their smartphone with an iPhone. This is what is revealed in a Crown Science survey carried out in the US. The opposite doesn't seem to be true: 90% of iPhone users wouldn't change their phone. The same goes for those using the Google system, Android.

Is Blackberry's era over? Why so many BB users wanting to change over? 40% seems quite high! Competition is tough for Rim which forged its rep in the pro sector and which, according to its own information, has made a success of its attempt to crack the general consumer market, with young people in particular (who like the BB Messenger chat). Blackberry has a very good image, impact and a loyal community of users.

Competing with Apple and Google is tough however. Apple has of course long since established itself and Google are progressing very fast. The consultancy firm Gartner reckons that Android should take number 2 spot in terms of OS market share by 2012. Although the competition has forced BlackBerry to diversify (entry level phones, cheaper), the brand is under threat. Is the BlackBerry community wobbling?

32% would like a Nexus One

While 40% of those interviewed are thinking about getting an iPhone replacement, 32% are reported to want a Nexus One, the smartphone using Google's Android system.

iPhone and Android users are much less likely to want to change.
